About this course
Course overview
The two specialty environments every machine designer needs: sheet metal that flattens correctly the first time, and weldments with cut lists your fabricator can actually use. We cover gauge tables, K-factor calibration, edge flanges and forming tools for sheet metal — then structural members, trim/extend, gusset/end caps, and weld bead annotation for weldments.
Curriculum
What you'll cover
Sheet Metal Foundations
Base flange, edge flanges, miter flanges, K-factor and bend allowance, gauge tables, and producing flat patterns that match the press.
Sheet Metal Production
Forming tools, lofted bends, vent and rip features, multi-body sheet metal, and flat-pattern drawings with bend tables.
Weldments & Cut Lists
Structural members, trim/extend/cope, gussets and end caps, custom profile libraries, weld bead annotation, and cut-list management for fabrication.
Outcomes
By the end you'll be able to
- Design sheet metal parts that flatten correctly with calibrated K-factors
- Produce flat-pattern drawings with bend tables your shop can run
- Build weldment frames with proper trim, gussets, and end caps
- Generate cut lists that match what the fabricator needs to order
Who it's for
- • Mechanical designers working on enclosures, frames, and fabricated assemblies
- • Machine designers shipping to sheet metal and weld shops
- • CSWPA-Sheet Metal / Weldments candidates
Prerequisites
- • SOLIDWORKS CSWA-level part modeling competency
