About this course
Course overview
A practical introduction to Geomagic Design X, the industry-leading reverse engineering platform. You will move from raw point clouds to fully parametric, feature-tree CAD models ready for downstream manufacturing. Taught by senior engineers who use Design X daily on aerospace, automotive, and consumer products.
Curriculum
What you'll cover
Day 1 — Mesh & Scan Foundations
Importing scan data, mesh healing, alignment strategies, and best practices for point-cloud preparation.
Day 2 — Automatic & Manual Segmentation
Region grouping, fitting primitives, freeform surface extraction, and resolving mesh defects.
Day 3 — Parametric Modeling & Export
Sketch-based features, design intent capture, hybrid modeling, and clean STEP / native CAD export.
Outcomes
By the end you'll be able to
- Confidently import and prepare scan data from any 3D scanner
- Build editable parametric CAD from organic and mechanical scans
- Export production-ready STEP files for SolidWorks, NX, and CATIA
- Apply Geomagic best practices to reduce rework and revision cycles
Who it's for
- • Mechanical engineers new to scan-to-CAD
- • CAD designers expanding into reverse engineering
- • QC technicians moving into design roles
Prerequisites
- • Working knowledge of any parametric CAD package
- • No prior Design X experience required
