About this course
Course overview
A focused 2-day course on combining 3D scanners with touch probes for inspection work. You'll learn when to scan, when to probe, how to align hybrid datasets to reference targets, and how to capture features (deep bores, sharp edges, hidden geometry) that pure scanning misses. Practical exercises in PolyWorks|Inspector and Geomagic Control X using real production parts.
Curriculum
What you'll cover
Day 1 — Capture Strategy & Alignment
Probe vs. scan trade-offs, reference target placement, datum-based and best-fit alignment for hybrid datasets, scanner setup for inspection accuracy.
Day 2 — Hybrid Measurement & Reporting
Probing features the scanner can't see (deep bores, sharp edges, threads), merging probe + scan data in PolyWorks/Control X, GD&T evaluation on hybrid data, inspection reports.
Outcomes
By the end you'll be able to
- Plan a hybrid scan + probe inspection job before touching the part
- Align mixed datasets to reference targets with traceable accuracy
- Measure features that pure scanning cannot capture reliably
- Build hybrid inspection reports in PolyWorks and Geomagic Control X
Who it's for
- • Inspection engineers and CMM operators
- • Metrology technicians using portable scanners
- • Quality teams adopting hybrid metrology workflows
Prerequisites
- • Familiarity with 3D scanning basics
- • Basic GD&T literacy recommended
